Gosford Cubbyhouse Long Day Care Centre Incorporated is a 42 place licensed child care centre situated in the heart of Gosford City. The centre is open from 6:30 am until 6:00 pm Monday to Friday. Gosford Cubbyhouse is a not-for-profit community-based child care facility that caters for children from 6 weeks to 6 years of age.
Gosford Cubbyhouse prides itself in quality care in a homely environment, where children can thrive and grow in a safe and happy place. The centre is focused on teaching children about environmental sustainability while allowing children to learn through their own interest (Early Years Learning Framework).
The service is fortunate enough to be situated in a purpose-built Centre backing onto the tranquil Rumbalara Reserve. The children are given the opportunity to explore the spectacular environment while bushwalking through the tracks in the reserve. This inspires the art and activities within the program as well as giving children a deeper connection to the land.
History
Gosford Cubbyhouse Long Day Care Centre opened in 1987 as an occasional childcare centre on the grounds of Gosford District Hospital. It is a community-based, not-for-profit organisation managed by a committee of interested community members and parents.
The Service's humble beginnings started when a local doctor saw a need within the local community for a safe place, where parents, who were distanced from extended family, could leave their children to return to work, attend appointments, do shopping or just take some time out. The centre employed 3 full time staff and various casual staff on call to meet staff ratio regulations.
Over the years the needs of the community altered and so did the child care centre to meet these changing requirements. In 1998 the centre became Gosford Cubbyhouse Occasional and Long Day Child Care Centre Inc.
In January 2016 our service relocated from our modest 26 place, 2 bedroom bungalow that was converted into a child care centre, to a 42 place purpose-built centre. Due to circumstances beyond our control, Gosford Cubbyhouse was unable to offer occasional care places after the move, and subsequently changed our name to Gosford Cubbyhouse Long Day Care Centre Incorporated.
